Don’t Delay Medical Care During The COVID-19 Pandemic
January 11, 2021 4:04 pm
Delaying medical care during the COVID-19 pandemic is like the old phrase “cutting off your nose to spite your face.” Yes, we all understand there is a pandemic and many are frightened of being among people, especially sick people. The problem is you can exacerbate your own medical issues by avoiding care because you are worrying about what could happen. Get treated, and don’t delay medical care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Be Aware Of Time Sensitive Medical Treatment
Heart Attacks
If you thought your loved one was having a heart attack, you wouldn’t try to treat them at home. Nor should you hesitate to seek help if YOU are the one having a heart attack. If you suspect your symptoms are related to a heart problem, go to the nearest ER or call the paramedics. Time is critical, and the longer you wait to seek treatment, the more you can damage your heart muscle. It is imperative for medical professionals to intervene immediately.
Strokes
A second vital, time sensitive medical issue is a stroke. Most of us know the symptoms of a stroke: weakness on one side of the body, slurred speech, difficulty walking, numbness, and vision issues to name a few. If any of these symptoms are present, there is no time to wait. Get immediate treatment to prevent brain damage, disability, or death.
Appendicitis
The symptoms of appendicitis are less known. They include abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, no appetite, and swelling of the abdomen with low grade fever. A ruptured appendix is life threatening.
Most of us probably would not wait to seek medical treatment if these conditions or any other sign of an emergency were present, but what about other less serious conditions or managed care situations?
Preventative Care And Screenings
A pandemic does not eliminate heart conditions or chronic issues like diabetes. Having labs performed as scheduled, screenings for colorectal cancer, mammograms, flu vaccines, and other preventative care is an important part of your overall healthcare, and should not be delayed during a pandemic.
The earlier Magnolia Regional Health Center discovers a problem, the sooner treatment can occur providing a successful outcome.
Safety Measures Are In Place
Whether it is your local hospital, emergency care clinic, or doctor’s office, all CDC safety measures are in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. There is no reason to postpone surgery, tests, labs, or other treatments and preventative care.
Don’t endanger your health by delaying medical care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
