MRHC Welcomes First Baby of the Year

As many individuals were spending the first days of the new year wrapping up a few days off with family, Sheena Fender and Larry Grisham were spending some quality time with family of their own. Their time, however, was a little bit different than most.
On Sunday, Jan. 1, Fender and Grisham welcomed their son, Dakoda James Grisham, into the world. Weighing 7 lbs. and 3 oz., Dakoda made his entrance both happy and healthy, at the same time earning him the title of being the first baby born at Magnolia Regional Health Center in 2017.
“He’s my little miracle,” said Fender. “He is a blessing to us.”
Every year, several local businesses provide the family of the first born child of the year with a gift basket full of gift items and cards. This year was no different, as the gift wrapped box of goods contained items from Kimberly Clark, Gingers, Obsessions Boutique, Lee Beau’s, McAlister’s, Diva Nails, and Walgreens.
“The first baby of the year is always an exciting time for our hospital and for the family of the child,” said Sabrina Moore, Clinical Director of Women’s Health at MRHC. “We are extremely excited for them and are thankful they chose to welcome their child here at MRHC. Also, thank you to all of the local businesses who contributed to the gift that will go to benefit this new family of three.”
The Labor and Delivery Unit at MRHC consists of 8 LDRP (labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum) rooms and 5 postpartum/GYN rooms. In 2016, the providers and staff delivered 674 babies.
